Multicultural Family Support Program

Special-Purpose Korean Language Classes
  • Description: Special-purpose Korean language classes offered at various levels to help people learn everyday expressions and Korean culture
  • Period: Available all year round
  • Target population: Marriage immigrants and their school-aged children
  • Completion criteria: Must attend 80% of the classes and score at least 60% in the Korean language proficiency evaluation
At-Home Education

Korean language education program

  • Target population: Marriage immigrants who have lived in Korea for less than 5 years and their school-aged children (24 years of age and under)
  • Description: Special-Purpose Korean Lv. 1 to 4, vocabulary, grammar, pragmatic language, and culture
  • Period: 10 months / 2 sessions per week / 2 hours per session

Parental Education

  • Target population: Parents of multicultural families
    • Pregnancy, childbirth, and infancy (pregnancy ~ 12 months after birth)
    • Early childhood (more than 12 months to 48 months of age)
    • Childhood (more than 48 months to 12 years of age)
  • Description: Parental education for support for child rearing, family counseling, and emotional support
  • Period: 5 months / 3 times (1 time in each stage)

Services for Children

  • Target population: Children of multicultural families and school-aged children of marriage immigrants aged 3 to 12
  • Description: Cognition, self-identity, emotional development, social skills, cultural competence, and civic education
  • Period: 10 months / 2 sessions per week / 2 hours per session
Family
  • (Multicultural families) Promote trust and love through communication, an understanding of proper parenting, and use of two languages at home as a way to promote communication and identity as a multicultural family
  • Period: February to November
Gender Equality
  • Promoting the awareness of gender equality between husband and wife and within the family and building trust and an understanding among family members
  • Period: March to November
Human Rights
  • Promoting the awareness of human rights and providing information on protection and remedy measures in the event of infringement of human rights
  • Period: March to November
Social Integration
  • Providing information on the rights, obligations, and responsibilities as a member of society to achieve social integration
  • Period: February to November
Counseling
  • Counseling on conflict within the family to help improve the husband-and-wife and parent-and-child relationship in multicultural families, alleviate internal stress, and promote family health
  • Period: January to December

Language Development Support Program for Children from Multicultural Families

  • Purpose: Provide appropriate language education to children from multicultural families having difficulties in communication after evaluating their level of language development
  • Target population: Children from multicultural families requiring language proficiency assessment and education (12 years of age and under)
  • Period: All year round
  • Description
    • Language proficiency assessment: Assess the child’s level of language development
    • Language education: Two 40-min sessions per week / Individual and group classes
    • Parental consultation and education: Parental consultation and education to help support the child’s language development

Translation and Interpretation Services for Marriage Immigrants

  • Period: All year round
  • Personnel: One translator/interpreter
  • Description: Translation and interpretation services for marriage immigrants who are not fluent in Korean to help break down the language barrier
  • Target: Multicultural families as well as individuals and institutions providing direct or indirect assistance to multicultural families
  • Services: Translation, interpretation, provision of information, etc.
